Animals on festive cards: birds, deer and sheep

Animals play very different roles here. 647 “Santa the vet with a reindeer” is the playful one, with rabbits and other animals around the patient. 002 “Leaping deer in a starry bauble” looks elegant on navy, and 480 “Mirrored deer of leaves and berries” weaves two deer from leaves. In one design the animals stand by the manger.

Questions and answers

Which birds appear on the cards?

Robins and crested red birds, for example in 563 “Robin among holly on deep green” and 419 “Crested red birds in a sprig tree”, in green, brown and red.

Why are animals part of some nativity designs?

Because the nativity scene includes sheep. That applies to one of the seven designs, 457 “Nativity stable in watercolour light”; the other six are secular.

Do animals turn up in funny scenes?

Yes: in 647 “Santa the vet with a reindeer”, Santa examines a reindeer with a stethoscope.
